Kapahaka - Excellence post 25
On Friday we did Kapa Haka, all of us were pretty nervous because the cultural festival was the next Tuesday. Firstly some of the Kauri students came in and watched us perfrom what we are going to do for the cultural festival and the feed back they had was to be louder so we listened to them and when the kakano kids came in lots of them blocked there ears because it was too noisy for them. I showed the care value of respect by listening respectfully while Mr Brown was talking. I showed leadership because I was quite in our transitions and in the gaps we had to wait in.

Kapahaka - Excellence post 24
On Friday I had kapahaka. First, we sung he honore and tai tapu then the non performance group left for the performance group to practice for the cultural festival. After that we sung haleluia, tahurihuri, tai tapu and the haka. In tahurihuri we were all very quiet and in tai tapu Matua Rihari said we were all flat so we did it all again two more time until the morning tea bell rang. The girls that are doing short poi and the front row of boys got asked to stay behind so that Matua Rihari could help us practise the actions for poi and for the front row of boys the timing in which they step forward in haleluia. Once he showed us the new actions for poi because some of he girls couldn't do the old ones we got to leave. I showed the care value of respect by showing up on time and I showed leadership by being a role model and listening to Matua Rihari and Mrs Baker.

PALs - Excellence post 23
Today Maddy and I ran skipping for the kakano students at five past twelve we headed to the class room got our jackets and collected everything we needed so that we would be ready to start at ten past twelve. After that we went onto the concrete outside of the music room deck and started skipping until some little kids joined in. Quite a few of the little kids didn't know how to skip so I taught them and then encouraged them while they had a go. Then when the bell rang Maddy and I packed up the gear put it back neatly were we found it and went back to class. While I was doing PALs I showed the care value of excellence by not giving up on teaching some little kids how to skip even when it got hard. I showed leadership by being a role model and getting to my duty on time.

PALs - Excellence post 22
On Thursday Maddy and I ran moon hoppers and lots of different novelty objects or the kakano kids during the second half of lunch. Maddy ran a game with some kids when you had to try get different coloured balls into a bucket she was holding and I sorted out who was going to go on the moon hoppers first since the little kids were fighting over who was having a turn first. Since the little kids were liking playing the game with Maddy she kept doing it for the whole time and I sorted out all the disagreements about who's turn it was.
I showed the care value of community by communicating well while asking if another person could have a turn with what they were using and I showed leadership by being a role model and getting to my PALs duty on time.

Technology - Excellence post 21
On Tuesday I had technology, at the start we did some paper work about the design process and how if at first you original plan does not work you have to go back and refine it which is one of the steps in the design process. Then we started working on our project Charlotte and I are working together on a cushion. First we threaded the sewing machine and tested it on a scrap piece of fabric. After that we did a paper pattern, we drew out the exact shape of what we wanted our cushions to be on paper, put fabric over it, pined it to the paper, checked that it had right angles and cut the fabric. Following that we asked the teacher to run a workshop on how to use the sewing machine that does letters and some pictures. Once she ran the workshop I used that machine to do a white snowflake on my black fabric as our projects are supposed to be winter themed.
I showed the care value of community by collaborating with Charlotte well and taking turns with the sewing machine and I showed leadership by being a role model and contributing to the class discussions.

Yesterday Maddy and I were on PALs and we ran skipping for the kakano kids. At 1:10 Maddy and I headed to class to get our PALs jackets and some pozis then we headed over to get the skipping ropes. We got one big one and several smaller ones. Then we stood at either end on the big one and swung it around and around for the kakano kids to jump in. Then a bell rang for the kakano kids to go back to class early because they had their cross country straight after lunch. After we packet up and untangled all the skipping ropes then we went back to class to drop off the PALs jackets.
While I was running PALs I showed the care value of excellence by cheering on the kids when it was their turn with the big rope and I showed leadership by being a role model and getting out to do my duty on time.

Today I went to technology and we filled out a sheet on the design process and what we are going to make. We also got into pairs, I was with Charlotte and we did a kahoot about winter because the things we are making are themed on winter. After we did that we made our prototype on the thing we are going to be making for the next couple of weeks. While I was there I showed the learner quality of communicate by talking with Charlotte about what our answer is for kahoot and I showed leadership by helping Amelia hand sew the end of her prototype.

At the start we only set up about 15 skipping ropes then load of kakano kids came along to join in and we had to get out more. While I was doing this I showed the learner quality of communicate by when the little kids line got too close to the big skipping rope I asked them to move back a little bit so they didn't get hurt and I showed leadership by demonstrating for a couple of little kids how to skip with a skipping rope.

On Tuesday I went to technology. I am in the design class and in the morning the design and textiles class watched a slide put together by the teachers to teach us about the design process. In the slide was, the steps in the design process and design fails which we had to explain were in the design process the person went wrong when making that product. We also talked about stakeholders and what they do. Then we partnered up and pretended they were our stakeholder and they were giving us answers to the questions we asked about the product and what they want it to look and be like. We got to chose out of a bed, shoe or bag then we had to make a prototype of the thing our partner designed when they were a stakeholder. While I was there I showed the learner quality of active thinker by asking my stakeholder l which was Charlotte lots of good questions to help me find out exactly how they want the design to be of the product and I showed leadership by helping Charlotte find a material to make her prototype.

Kapahaka - Excellence post 13
On Friday we had kapahaka it was way longer than usual because we had it for the whole first block and since Matua Rihari runs kapahaka we didn't have Te Reo that morning. First we ran through taitapu a couple of times than we practised the transitions in between each song. Once we went through that quite a few times we split into groups to practise our poi, long poi and rakau. I showed the learner quality of communicate by asking Amelia nicely to move forward during poi when I didn't have enough room and I showed leadership by making sure I was always where I was supposed to be during our transitions.

For the first ten minutes the kids were having fun so Sophie and I only needed to help with making sure they all got a turn with the hoola-hoops and mini bean bags then one kid asked if we could run some games with them. So we ran who can hoola-hoop for the longest and then rob the nest with the kids that wanted to.
