Kapahaka - Merit post 15

Today I went to kapahaka it was whole hour long practice instead of the usual 30-40 minute practice due to the cultural festival coming up. We learnt that we are going to start our performance at the cultural festival with haleluia and the timing to when we step toward the front of the stage during the song. During kapahaka I showed the learner quality of resilient by not giving up when learning the new moves and practising them.

PALs - Merit post 14

Today I was a PAL and Charlotte, Charlie and I ran an activity for the kakano with stilts during the second half of lunch. We handed out pozi's to the little kids that tried hard and didn't give up which was most of them. They were all really good until the end of lunchtime when some boys got silly and started flinging them around so we sorted it out. While I was running the activity I showed the learner qualities of integrity and resilient. Integrity by being fair and making sure they all got an even amount of time with the stilts as best as I could and resilient by not giving up when the boys got silly.

WALT follow the writing process to write an exposition.

For my writing I am doing Richie McCaw and Sir Edmund Hillary.
Here is my conclusion.

My opinion is that Richie McCaw is a better leader he shows  all of the leadership traits and takes lots of pride in his achievements. He has achieved so many amazing things all of them have impacted New Zealand greatly in a good way taking pride to the kiwis.

WALT apply the techniques of improvisation to a range of different scenarios.

An improvisation techniques that I have used successfully is, never say no.

Improvisation techniques that I would like to have more practice at listen carefully so you know what to say next.

The thing that I enjoyed most about this unit of learning was playing the games because most of the games were really fun.

The thing that I found most challenging during this unit of learning was thinking of something to say on the spot because it is quite hard to think of something straight away especially when you are in front of a audience.

My favourite improv game was the alphabet one because it was fun.

My next step/ something I need to work on further  in improvisation is thinking of things to say quickly because I not the best at it.

Term 1 Integrated Learning - Leadership

We have been learning all about What makes a good leader.

We identified that good leaders show 6 main character traits. These are integrity, trustworthy, resilient, goal focused, active thinker and motivational.

The leadership trait that I think I show the most is resilient because I very rarely give up.

The leadership trait I would most like to develop is motivational because rarely motivate people to do things.

Something NEW I have learned about leadership is that it is a skill.

The SOLO level that I reached during this unit of learning is relational because I can compare and contrast the traits of different leaders.
(see slide 2 of the leadership modelling book for this)

My next step in learning about leadership is to apply everything that I have learned about leadership to my own leadership roles.

WALT investigate situations that involve element of chance/probability.

While I was doing these activities I learnt how to simplify fractions and how to change fractions to percentages. Below is some evidence.

Kapahaka -Merit post 13

Today I went to kapahaka at the start both the performance and the non performance groups practised a few songs together then Mr Brown asked the non performance group to go so that the the performance group could practice for the cultural fest. Once they were gone we went over and over Taitapu and the new moves for it so it will be perfect when we perform it on the night. When I was there I showed the learner quality of integrity by being fair to Mr Brown, Mrs Baker and Matua Rihari and not wasting their time and mucking around.

PALs - Merit post 12

Yesterday I was on PALs and Teken, Linsay and I ran a game of touch rugby for the kauri team. There were only year 4's and 6's we were going to mix up the teams but they all wanted to play against each other so we said that was ok and got the year fours to put on a bib just encase they got confused. I was the ref for the game, Tekan was in the year fours team and Lindsay was in the years six's team cause there wasn't to many people. while I was there I showed the learner qualities of integrity by not being biased to a team when I was reffing and resilient  by when the year four's disagreed with the calls I made not giving up and sorting it out to the best of my abilities.

WALT I can use appropriate skills and technologies to find and use a range of texts for specific purposes.

For my “Evaluating Leaders” research I have been researching about Richie McCaw and Sir Edmund Hilary.

During this unit I have had to use a range of strategies to find the information I needed on Google. This include:

Cross checking

Referencing

Advance tool bar

I have achieved this goal because I can effectively use the advance search tool bar and cross check my information.

My next step is to set a new reading goal.

My Argument

For writing we have been learning to write an argument using the writing process. The topic was “Are Devices Taking Over Our Lives”.

Something I did really well in my writing was ideas because I have one main idea and I have elaborated on it.

Here is a section of my writing that shows this. Scientific research shows that by going on devices right before or shortly before sleeping gives you nightmares. It also makes getting to sleep take longer. By going on devices before going to sleep triggers your brain into thinking its daytime therefore making getting to sleep a harder and longer process. No wonder people are always complaining about being tired devices are giving people nightmare and making it harder for them to sleep. By not sleeping long enough it is making people less likely to exercise and do fitness.

Kapahaka - Merit post 11

On Friday I went to kapahaka, we mostly practised for the cultural festival and learned new moves to fit in better with the size of the stage at the cultural festival I think the new moves are much better than the old moves cause they go with the song better. While I was there I showed the learner quality of resilient by trying my best when learning the new moves.
